More than 200 water-powered corn mills in Wales are protected by Listing. Listed Buildings are protected from alterations which might change their character, unless approval has been sought and consent given by Local Authority Planning Departments and/or by the Welsh Government. In the case of water-powered corn mills this invariably means that any surviving machinery, whether inside or outside, is protected, and cannot be altered or removed without Listed Building Consent.
The table below gives details of Listed mills for each Local Authority in Wales. The 2nd column gives the Listed Building number, the 3rd column the National Grid Reference, the 4th the Community, the 5th a very brief description, the 6th the dates when Listed (and, where there are two dates, revised), and the 7th the Royal Commission’s NPRN number; the last can be used to find the Commission’s record on www.coflein.gov.uk. The table is copyright, RCAHMW.
Please note the list concentrates mainly on corn mills ; it is hoped to add other types of listed mills in due course.
